CHRISC Tanzania 2010 youth league kickoff has been scheduled to be from 10th April 2010 in all our four operating areas Mwanza, Arusha, Moshi and Tanga, the league targets young children from the age of 16 years, there are six different categories in the league under 13, under 14 and under 16 both boys and girls. Teams’ registration has been going on for the past one month and so far 110 teams have registered for participation, we are expecting to have at least 375 teams registered for the year long league.
CHRISC youth league is different from most of the leagues going on in the country in that it incorporates the element of life skill and empowerment, this is done through Kicking Aids out concept which is an integration of sport and life skills, the participants are required to take part in at least one session of Kicking Aids out games conducted by Kicking Aids out peer leaders each week. This gives the youth not only a chance to be able to participate in sports but also to get the skills required in navigating through the daily challenges in their normal life in regards to HIV/AIDS, Substance abuse and Leadership skills.
To make the tournament more effective and efficient, 11 young volunteers in each of our four operating areas get in house training on sports and event management, the training has already been conducted in Arusha and Moshi, these volunteers will be responsible for managing the fixture of the league the whole season. To help them in this will be referees who also get in-house training on basic soccer refereeing skills these also will be volunteers selected from each of the zone in CHRISC operating areas.
