AREAS OF OPERATION

Christian Sports Contact Tanzania is operating in the following areas; Arusha, Mwanza, Tanga and Moshi/ Kilimanjaro.

ARUSHA

Arusha is one of Tanzania's 26 administrative regions. The region capital is called Arusha which is also the largest district in the region. Other towns include Monduli, just west of Arusha, Longido and Loliondo to the north, Mto wa Mbu and Karatu to the west and Usa River to the east. CHRISC in Arusha was started in 1999 by Andrew William Kajembe; the activities in Arusha are mainly centered in Arusha district.CHRISC Activities in Arusha includes a youth league that involves over 100 teams yearly both boys and girls of the ages below 18 years. Life skills programs such as Kicking Aids Out activities are integrated in all activities conducted in Arusha, workshops on HIV/Aids and substance abuse awareness, Leadership, soccer coaching and Bible teaching are also among some of the activities that CHRISC Arusha undertakes. MWANZA

Mwanza is a city in northwest Tanzania and a southern port of Lake Victoria. It is the capital of Mwanza Region. Mwanza is the second largest city in Tanzania, after Dar es Salaam. The idea of CHRISC was brought to Mwanza by Student KRIK Stavanger in 2003. CHRISC Mwanza deals with youth mostly from poor background, this has attracted many youth in soccer and volleyball which are the popular sports in the region. CHRISC Mwanza like Arusha also has a running league of both boys and girls of 18 years and below which is run annually from March to November. There are 4 zones with activities in Mwanza and participants are involved in courses conducted each year to impart knowledge in HIV/AIDS, substance abuse, soccer coaching and refereeing and Christian values.

MOSHI

Moshi is situated on the lower slopes of Mt Kilimanjaro, a volcanic mountain which is the highest mountain in Africa, it is 80 km south from Arusha that is about an hour drive. CHRISC activities in Moshi started in 2006 and have intensified since then this is also due to East Africa cup, the largest youth soccer tournament in Africa is held annually in the region. The tournament attracts youths from 5 countries in the region and Norway. Through this the youths in Moshi have been motivated by being part of the tournament and now they are organizing and managing their own sports activities. CHRISC Moshi has a running league for both boys and girls and workshops on HIV/AIDS, soccer coaching and referees are held annually

TANGA

Tanga is both the name of the most northerly seaport city of Tanzania, and the surrounding Tanga region. It is the regional headquarter of the region. It is a quiet city compared to for example, Arusha and Moshi with a comparable number of inhabitants. The city of Tanga sits on the Indian Ocean, near the border with Kenya. CHRISC activities in Tanga started in 2003; the activities been growing since then. The region is the host of the annual CHRISC Tanzania national camp which attracts up to 400 youths yearly. Activities in the region include soccer and volleyball for both boys and girls
