NATIONAL CAMP
CHRISC Tanzania and Norwegian Peoples Aid Tanzania, (NPA) have been working together on several projects focused on youth empowerment. One of the several projects is the annual CHRISC Tanzania national camp which usually takes place in Tanga.
The camp activities aim to bring youths from CHRISC districts in Tanzania to share their culture, while having fun playing various sporting activities which includes; Football, volleyball, netball, frisbee, basketball and athletics, beside sports, the youth get together to learn from different trainings that are facilitated during the camp like first aid, HIV and AIDS awareness, children’s right, soccer coaching and officiating and leadership.
EAST AFRICA CUP
The East Africa Cup (EAC) is a youth football tournament for both boys and girls between and including the ages 12–16 held annually the last week of June in Moshi, Kilimanjaro-Tanzania.
The tournament is organized by five partner organizations namely; Norwegian Peoples Aid (NPA) Tanzania, KRIK Norway, CHRISC East Africa, Mathare Youth Sports Association (MYSA) Kenya and Elimu Michezo Na Mazoezi (EMIMA) Tanzania. EAC is inspired by Norway cup which has had a similar event running for the last 30 years, only on a much larger scale of over 1500 teams from all around the world.
The tournament was first held in June 2004, it is gaining a lot of interest and is now very strong and growing. In 2008 52 teams participated in the tournament. The tournament is first and foremost about education and awareness building, sports is the chosen tool used to achieve this.
CHRISC TRAINING CENTRE IN ARUSHA
CHRISC training centre in Arusha is a project established under the banner of CHRISC Tanzania in one of its operating Area called Arusha. The project is a partnership between CHRISC Tanzania and Suye primary school in Arusha.
Arusha is one of Tanzania's 26 administrative regions. The region capital is called Arusha which is also the largest district in the region; Suye Primary school is located in a location called Suye in Arusha district and CHRISC activities in Arusha have been conducted in the area for up to 3 years now.
The project came up as a result of a need in the community within Suye primary school and the surrounding areas to address some of the challenges the youth are facing in regards to Substance abuse, HIV/AIDS, Crime and the degradation of the environment.
The project will be launched in January 2010 and will be coordinated by volunteers from CHRISC in Arusha.
The Training Centre will serve as an effective tool for social mobilization, supporting health activities such as awareness on HIV/AIDS and Substance abuse. The proposed project will be based at Suye primary School and cover Community around Suye village. Key activities to be found under this project include;
• Peer education in relation to HIV/AIDS and Substance abuse among CHRISC leaders
• Training of peer leader selected among pupils in Suye primary school
• Workshops on awareness HIV/AIDS and Substance abuse
• Monthly thematic sports bonanza involving
o Football
o Volleyball
o Netball
• Life skills training among CHRISC leaders, and Suye primary school pupils.
